There are several options for reducing incoming paperwork:
1) Go paper-less. Most banks and utility companies offer e-billing. If you sign up, your bill will come to your email instead of in the mail, and you can view it and pay it online.
2) Opt-out. You can opt-out of pre-approval offers for credit cards, insurance, etc. by going to optoutprescreen.com and filling out the online form.
3) Add yourself to the "do not mail" database. The Direct Marketing Association's mail preference database can be found at www.dmachoice.org. Signing up here will keep your address off of marketing mailing lists.
4) If you get other mail or catalogs you no longer want to receive, you can call the company and ask for your name to be removed from their mailing list.
All of these options are quick to complete and completely free, and they will reduce your incoming bills and junk mail dramatically.
Note: The opt-out form and mail preference database updates may take a couple of months to kick in, so don't be alarmed if you don't notice an immediate difference.
